Design and Looks: Micromax A116 Canvas HD is the latest smartphone from Micromax
which gives tough competition to the high-end phones from the likes of Samsung.
This phone is a Phablet with 5 inches in size and the screen is 5 inch IPS LCD
Capacitive touch and provides 1280 x 720 pixel resolution with pixel density of
~294 ppi (even better than Galaxy Note 2). However Gorilla Glass protection is
missing. Micromax could develop their own UI.

Hardware and Software: Canvas HD is not as well positioned coming to the software and
hardware. RAM is only 1GB and it is a drawback. Processor is 1.2 GHz Quad Core
Cortex-A7 Processor, but it would have been better if it comes with an A9
processor. OS is Android v4.1 Jelly Bean, which is pretty good. PowerVR
Series5XT GPU improves gaming experience and has MediaTek MT6589 Chipset.

Camera, Music and Multimedia: There are complaints that camera in the Indian made smartphones
are not good enough when compared to those of established manufacturers.
However the 8 MP camera has improved and it comes with autofocus, LED flash,
Geo-tagging, touch focus, face detection. The secondary camera is of VGA
quality only which is a disapointment. Internal and External Storage: The phone
comes with 4GB internal storage and external storage via microSD upto 64 GB
also is available.

Connectivity Options: The phone can work on tri band 2G for SIM 1 and SIM 2. plus dual
band 3G. There is no 4G available. 4G LTE networks. In addition to GPRS and
EDGE, Micromax Canvas HD can be connected to internet via 3G at Speed of HSDPA
21 Mbps and HSUPA 5.76 Mbps which makes browsing and download very fast. Other
connectivity options include Bluetooth v3.0 with A2DP, Wi-Fi 802.11 a/b/g/n,
and there is no NFC.

Battery and Talk Time: The phone comes with Standard Li-Ion 2100 mAh battery but talk
time and stand by time are not yet known. We expect both to be low on time and
this is again another drawback for the phone.

Our Verdict: Micromax A116 Canvas
HD is so far the most evolved smartphone from the house of Micromax, but it has
shortcomings in terms of talk time, RAM and camera quality. But we expect the
phone to be priced under Rs. 15000/- which will then make it a better option
considering the cost aspect.
